the photographic review of Port Townsends history all the way back to the 1850's and earlier is simply astounding. The communit takes great pride in the Historic and "victorian" architectural development of the buildings and homes.

Stopped in with friends. What a great place. Wonderful exhibits. They also sent us to the furnished Rothchild House located on the bluff above town and the furnished Commander's House out at Fort Worden. The museum manages these two houses for the State of WA. We had a great day in PT but so sorry we missed the museum walking... More

Great old building and a nice display of Northwest artifacts. A new exhibit of contemporary art opens in April. Will definitely go back when that is ready.

I've been to Port Townsend several times and always passed up on this museum. This time I decided to stop in. It's a great place to bring kids on a rainy day. Each room has a theme. There's a maritime room, police and fire quarters and the old jail, still intact after all these years. There's even a special exhibit... More

For those interested in the history of Jefferson County Washington, this place is a must. They have an excellent collection of photos and documents going way back to when Port townsend was a major port, and contender to become the state capitol. Worth a couple of hours of your time.

I always try to gain a better understanding of the places I visit by going to local museums. Though a small town, Port Townsend has a rich and interesting history and that history is well captured in this museum. While there is not a lot to it (we toured it thoroughly in less than an hour) the information provided was... More

My Partner and I have been visiting Port Townsend for a few years now and have always loved the sense of community, family and good old neighbourly love that is a big part of this towns culture. On a rainy day in June we were camping at Fort Townsend and decided we needed a little warm and dry time! so... More

When wandering around this pretty little town you immediately begin to wonder how all of these Victorian buildings came to be in such a remote place (And are still there.). Answers to all questions can be found at the historical society museum. They have wonderful exhibits of artifacts and photographs about the once bustling and rowdy seaport.
