A gem of an area, tucked away in a high valley. Beautiful, unspoiled.

This review is for the ski area of the Canaan Valley Resort. FYI, note that this is not a ski-in/ski-out resort. The slopes are about a mile or two away from the resort's lodging in another part of the state park. You can drive or take a shuttle from the hotel lodge. The skiing is pretty good for a mid-Atlantic...

Drive there is a little scary but the place was worth it. You have to try the airboarding, it was a blast. People were super friendly, even loaned us goggles and a pair of gloves when my wife lost hers. We will be definitely going back.
Canaan Valley Resort is a well established and maintained year round resort.
Canaan Valley Resort offers large hotel type rooms as well as cabins.
We prefer the Resort's ski area. Canaan Valley Resort offers dining at several different levels.
The cabins offer full kitchens and supplies are nearby.
Any day of skiing is better than no day of skiing.

I love downhill snow skiing. I don't go that much, once or twice a year if I can fit it in. I usually go to Seven Springs PA on the president's day weekend. This year I wanted to try a different place. Our Cub Scout families went to Canaan Valley resort.

Also do not like the...

While staying here I had the opportunity to feed deer by hand, also enjoyed a romantic getaway in the fall that was amazing.
Surprised they we're running groomers during the ski day even on slopes that were open. Saw 4 wheelers all over the place and very close to skiers. As we are trying to teach our 2 kids to ski, it was scary! We will not return.
First, let me state my rating is based on a comparison with other ski areas in the Southeast/Mid Atlantic region. No one in their right mind should try to compare anything in this region with anything out West. If you want high speed lifts, lots of Four Seasons type accommodations, 4-5 star dining, and shopping head to Beaver Creek, or...

A true four-seasons resort with an emphasis on winter activities. The restaurant has a great view and good food. In the summer, the golf course is long but wide open, and easy to book tee times.
