The drive up to the top was nice. The view was nice, nothing spectacular although it was a little hazy when we were there. There was an area that was fenced off that looked like it would have had a better and more exciting view. (We did hear that about a week later someone went over the fence and ended... more
Grandad Bluff offers a spectacular view of the city of La Crosse. Look for the bluff with the flag on top. Go for the view, don't expect too much else. The drive up to the bluff is nice, but the area itself is nothing special. It is all fenced in and the walk to the far edge of the bluff... more
I close my eyes and drift back in time to the place where all is fine. The view of the breathtaking valley crosses the horizon, forever etched upon my mind. How peaceful and heart warming. I so miss the tranquility of this scene. If you've ever been to Granddad Bluff then you'll know precisely what I mean. more
This bluff is absolutely gorgeous. The midwest is not known for rock faced precipices, but this one is spectacular. It offers a gorgeous view of the lovely city of La Crosse, numerous hiking trails, picnic areas and a wonderful watering hole half way up the bluff called "The Alpine Inn". Grandad's Bluff offers a beautiful view of this beautiful city, and the meandering mighty Mississippi River, and its surrounding forests. From this vantage point you can see three states: Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa. more
