This was a great stop to learn more about the history of the area on a local level. You can really appreciate what it was like to be in a late 19th century home. The staff were very courteous in answering our many questions and they seem to really like to have children come through. The house is well furnished... More

This is a well kept local historical site - restored 1900's mansion. The house is furnished with many original pieces of furniture and photographs. The guided tour is worth the time (about an hour) and price ($10/person). Beautiful grounds and other historical building. Nice gift shop and ticket area. Our guide was knowledgable and friendly - taking time to answer... More

I've been visiting Villa Louis since I was a child. Over the years, the mansion has gone through some major restoration. I've been through many historic homes in cities such as New Orleans, San Francisco and Wilmington, and think Villa Louis rivals the best of them. The house has been authentically restored to the 1890's time period and includes ninety... More

What an inexpensive day, all for $35. My friend and I took a class at Villa Louis "Breakfast in a Victorian Kitchen" which is a culinary tour of the late 19th century. We prepared one of the dishes of a Victorian breakfast using the foods, utensils and technology of the time. There were 16 people all total, helping to make... More

Went with my sister, who is my friend. It was worth the $9 (each) admission fee. I've been to many historic sites out east that are larger and nicer but this was still worth seeing. Afterall, it's what we have in Wisconsin. Unfortunately, our guide was very new and kept forgetting what she was supposed to have memorized. Guess you... More

I have to recommend the tour of Villa Louis as one of the best attractions in the Tri-State area! What really impressed me is the condition of the mansion and the elegance of the Dousman's lifestyle. The tour guide was excellent and shared many personal stories and facts regarding the Dousman family members. Also featured this particular day was the... More

Great place to tour to see what it was like to have considerable wealth in the "gay 90's" (1890's) in WI. The tour guide was excellent and full of stories and knowledge about the Dousman family who resided in the villa.

Villa Louis is an 1870 Victorian mansion built by the family of Hercules Dousman, an entrepreneurial frontiersman who parlayed various investments into a fortune. His son Louis and wife Nina Dousman built the Villa Louis as the centerpiece of their sprawling country estate. Today the home is restored to its British Arts-and-Crafts-style elegance during its heyday in the 1890s. Much... More
