Upon arrival around eight o'clock in the morning, I found the road into the area of the fort barred by a heavy metal gate. There was no sign indicating visiting hours, so after a few minutes I ducked under the gate and walked uphill into the fort site. ..stopped by here on my way to SD - the KOA advised us there wasn't much here, but it was worth the visit. It's just too bad that the state hasn't restored this fort. All the buildings are gone except for 2. They're been restored, but the place does have that eerie feel to it like a lot went on... More

One should never find fault with other like-minded historians, In this case I make an exception. I really had to use my imagination as to what went before.
