It really is a postcard water falls with a nice easy walking trail. You can't get close to the falls but the view is spectacular.

it's so easy to get to. you park the car, walk a few minutes and you're there. you don't have to exert much energy so it's great if you're tired, can't walk too far, etc. it's a beautiful, long waterfall. not niagra falls as some tourists beside me said when i was there, but "hello", you're in hawaii now.

I first visited awesome Akaka Falls in 1989. Not much has changed over the years except that now there is an automated machine that you must pay a $5.00 fee for parking. Definately a bargain but be aware that it only takes credit/debit cards... no cash. The trail is incredible with stands of giant bamboo, huge banyan trees, beautiful waterfalls,... More

This is a must-see. This is a breathtaking waterfall and you also get to see Kahuna Falls for the price of one. You can either park inside their appointed lot $5 or out on the street for free and just give a $1 donation. Lots of stairs and I had to carry my little son up and down the stair... More

Great tip from the manager of Hale Tapa.... when you get to the parking lot go to the RIGHT on the trail. It is a big circular trail You'll come to Kahuna Falls first. Which is awesome in it's own right. Further down the trail you round a bend and WOW there is Akaka Falls with 600' drop! (If you... More

The waterfall here was beautiful, and definitely the highlight of this park. We did the entire loop trail around to see the other falls as well, but Akaka is the standout. There are quite a few other interesting plants to photograph as you make your way around. There is a one dollar fee for people walking into the park --... More

This park is really set up well. Good concrete walking paths, well laid out and good signage. Not that long a drive from Hilo. Well marked route and my Android took me right to it. Park outside gate to avoid $5. $1 per person to walk the trail. Less than an hour total.

The walking path has been re-done recently and is a wonderful hike around lush tropical plants . . . either way you go, you end up at the beautiful Akaka Falls.
