At the Pacific Tsunami Museum, there are many pictures taken of the Tsunami's that have hit Hawaii, from the time they were first recorded here. There is a very historical film, showing the 1960 Tsunami that devestated the Hilo area of Hawaii. There is an East Hawaii walk/drive tour of Historical Tsunami sites. There are physical exhibits of how a... More

Interesting piece of history, small, but makes you think. You are on an island and very vulnerable - take a minute to explore history of the Big Island - mother nature can be very devastating .

My husband and I very much enjoyed this little museum in the centre of Hilo. It has many pictures and stories about the history of Tsunamis in Hawaii; I was especially touched by the accounts of survivors - some of the stories are incredible by all standards! We got to watch a video as well that provided historic insights and... More

This place might only be small and not look all that exciting, but its full of interesting facts and history. The movie they show regarding the 1946 Tsunami that hit the area was moving, especially with the interviews from survivors perspective.

Having survived many tsunamis Hawaii is the world leader in tsunami technology. This museum shows the history of how they came to be so knowledgeable.

I was very glad to go to this museum. The staff was knowledgeable and it was a very educational experience. Plan to spend at least one hour here.

The museum was very interesting but the best part was the stories told to us by the staff. They were old timers who lived through the history of Hilo and the Tsunami.

My husband and I went to the museum, but could have spent more time than the hour and half that we browsed. It is a physically small museum but packed with information about tsunamis throughout the Pacific as well as the geological/scientific background of the waves. Very interesting for two adults, but not very interactive for children. The staff were... More

This was originally more of an excape from the rain, but am I ever glad we went into this Museum. The history of the Hilo area was extensive and there were lots of historical pictures. The volunteers were very knowledgeable. I could have stayed for hours but my impatient kids were hungry and rushed me out.

An OK museum on tsunamis, mostly those affecting Hilo in the mid twentieth century. $8 for adults during my visit, so it wasn't unrealistic for the price. A lot of passion about tsunami education is present and well-intended. I didn't learn a lot, but they had good coverage of the specifics of the Hilo tsunamics and the personal toll. My... More
