There are some good restaurants and shops selling food, and a great farmers' market here. I bought fruit here and my lunch from one of the stores which I ate on the benches overlooking the bay. A welcome and authentic site for travellers, different from the overly-commercialised Pier 39. more

The Ferry Building is the original steamship terminal building from the late 19th and first half of the 20th century. It was remodeled and reopened several years ago as a celebration of all things food. Home to many of the best restaurants in SF, it also includes gourmet kitchen stores, fresh fish, great bakeries and artisan cheeses. It is also... more

The Ferry Building Marketplace was nice. My husband and I walked around and it was interesting. I liked being outside looking at the water and taking pictures of all the sailboats that were out. We had lunch at the Mexican restuarant, I don't remember the name but the food was pretty good. Across the street from the ferry building there... more

We took the electric trolley from Fisherman's Wharf. We had the 3 day muni pass which came in handy. The market opened at 10:00 and we arrived a little early. There weren't as many vendors as I expected, but maybe more come out on Saturdays. Outside there were several farms selling mostly organic produce. It was very good quality, but... more

We enjoyed the marketplace and had a decent lunch at the Golden Gate Meat Company which was quite busy. Being from Adelaide, South Australia, we are spoiled for fresh food markets - I think ours is fantastic and Melbourne's markets are pretty great too. more

Tourists in San Francisco flock to Fisherman’s Wharf, but travelers in the know head to the Ferry Building for locally made foods. Here, you can taste and buy everything from artisan chocolates to farmstead cheese and locally roasted coffee. Take your cappuccino outside and enjoy the view of San Francisco Bay and the Bay Bridge from one of the outdoor... more

The Farmers Market on Saturday morning is a must! Natural cheeses, breads and organically grown produces fills the marketplace! They have fruits and vegetable that I have never seen before! Just a terrific treat to eat your way through and bring some home to feast! There are also terrific restaurants and food markets inside the Ferry Building which are open... more

Went to the Ferry Building Farmer's Market last Saturday - 23 May - it was fabulous! We arrived at about 8.30am - it was buzzing, great atmosphere, great selection of high quality food, all of which you could sample - we were able to try lots of fruit, bread & cheese as we assembled a great picnic. In the marketplace... more

I have lived in San Francisco for a long time now and whenever I travel to other cities, I especially miss the awesome restaurants and markets along the waterfront. I highly encourage travelers to visit the Ferry Building - it's the REAL San Francisco - more so than Fisherman's Wharf, there the locals typically avoid. :-)) Gen more

Getting lost here was great. We weren't near the restaurant we were after, but came in here looking for it and returned later to sample our way through the gourmet marketplaces and artisan outlets inside. We ended up taking a bag of AMAZING chocolates from Recchiuti home with us. This is *the* place to assemble a picnic. more
