Was on my bucket list and I think will leave it there, so I’m guaranteed to go back!Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 March 2023
- Amber N W5 contributionsWonderful and a must see!I highly recommend visiting the Golden Gate Bridge and going to the lookout next to it! You should also purchase a street hotdog ( $10.00) while at the look out spot and enjoy the view with your family! Great for all ages!Visited March 2023Written 21 March 2023
- Swarup Durve5 contributionsMesmerizing and Amazing! It's a mesmerizing experience! To me a visit to the Golden Gate Bridge is a technical marvel and a get-together with your or your loved ones. There is something mystical about this place glancing at the blue water, a very positive, happy and a peaceful feeling when you get there.Visited July 2022Written 7 April 2023
- Pias7 contributionsEnjoyed walkingNice view from the hills. The walk across the bridge was long, about 3 km, I spent an hour one-way. If you want to ride a bus back, the nearest bus stop was 15 mins away. So, plan your trip if you want to walk.Visited April 2023Written 11 April 2023

- TravelingSoccerLoonSaint Paul, Minnesota3,477 contributionsIconic Bridge with Many Ways to ExperienceIconic structure and maybe the most famous bridge in the world. It represents San Francisco and the state of California as much as anything. Several ways to experience. Easiest is to drive across. No toll northbound but there is a toll when returning to the city southbound. There are some great viewing points on the north side of the bridge in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area including a viewpoint found by taking the 2nd exit after crossing the bridge when headed northbound and a couple nice viewpoints on Conzelman Road (one way accessed by going through the Baker-Barry Tunnel). You can also bike or walk across the bridge in a pedestrian/bike lane. There are boats trips from along the Embarcadero that tour San Francisco Bay. We've done all of those, but this time we splurged on a helicopter tour with San Francisco Helicopter Tours, and it was amazing.Visited October 2022Written 26 April 2023
- BrummieMoBirmingham, United Kingdom93 contributionsBreathtakingAn iconic site that doesn't disappoint. Fantastic views back to San Francisco. But be aware that if you go on the open bus tour it can be very chilly on the top deck as it is always windy going over the bridge so wear something warm.Visited April 2023Written 30 April 2023
- baird t51 contributionsABSENT THE FOG A STUNNING VIEW OF THE BAYThe iconic bridge connects San Francisco over the bay to north California. The view of the city and complete bay is terrific.....dramatic. After crossing there's an exit where you can stop and take photos, use the restrooms and enjoy the going and coming traffic over the Bridge below.Visited May 2023Written 5 May 2023
- PegersNorthern Ireland, United Kingdom75 contributionsA cycle ride like no otherWe hired two bikes from Golden Gate rentals in San Fran and headed off to the bridge, stopping off at a market on the way. The weather was dry and sunny, although when we got to the bridge it was a little windy. Having cycle across we made our way to Sausalito for lunch with the option of a ferry back but we decided we were feeling fit so cycled back across the bridge, having made it up the very steep hill from Sausalito. The wind had picked up and it was more difficult going across but we made it and got back to the rental shop having completed 19 miles. Not for the unfit!!Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 May 2023
- RASA7 contributionsGolden Gate DriveSee this magnificent structure up close was an awesome experience. Just driving across and stopping to take in the view is great. Didn’t realize there was a ferry ride to Alcatraz, so it on the bucket list part 2. Would recommend as a must see.Visited February 2023Written 29 May 2023

Firstly, San Francisco is amazing and one of the best US cities. Secondly, that bridge is the prettiest location there, where it is quite cheerful and enjoyable to drive through it, and when it comes to its watching, there are amazing elevated spots to view it in a picturesque sense and to see it inspiring and pretty. Such view spots are noticed clearly on google maps. One final tip is that the drive through the bridge is subjected to electronic tolls.

The Golden Gate Bridge took our breath away. We first were able to view it from the Battery Spencer Overlook which offered several areas to pull off and park to see this amazing view!

Been here and i was stunned for this bridge is very iconic for san francisco and it appears in numbers of films been made.
The best way is to get a boat cruise to see the best angle of the bridge plus see Alcatraz. We were lucky that the weather were nice when we went.

I visited in August 22. Hold onto your hats, ladies and gentlemen. Literally and figuratively. As you zoom round that corner from San Francisco (sorry, I’m not a native) on the freeway on of those hop on/off buses. The experience will blow you away, but only if you’re top tier and outside. Stop, get off, walk over and get an overpriced sausage from a local vendor on the way back. Worth it.

Doesn’t live up to the name. It’s red/orange and not golden. Not worth the effort if they can’t even name it properly. What a waste of a trip.

Our first stop directly from the airport! A friend was visiting and it was her first time in San Francisco. We were lucky to have gorgeous weather and clear skies. We had beautiful views from the San Francisco side as well as a breezy walk onto the bridge.

Hi there,
So in March '23 my mom and I have a 5 hour layover in SFO before connecting back to Amsterdam. Would there be enough time to see the golden gate bridge and get back to the airport again if we get an Uber? We just want to see it and return to the airport again. Our time window is between 9.30AM and 1PM on a Friday as we probably need to get though customs again as we left the airport.

You could do that. It would be a close thing, but the traffic during this hours is no too bad.

Thanks

As a past resident and frequent visitor of the GG Bridge, Fort Point, Sausalito I transversed the bridge many times. The best one way walk excursion would be to get a lift from the S.F. side to the North side and walk back across for free enjoying the view of S.F. Don’t forget there are historic sites under the bridge at both ends that make for great pictures of the bridge and city.

Is their an area where i can take a selfie with the bridge in the background? If so where would i stand in order to get most of the entire bridge in the background of ny photo when i go to visit?

Yes, there are places on both sides of the bridge at the Scenic lookout... on the City side, you can take a selfie all along the path on the East side of the bridge with the best picture standing at the path where it splits between the "walking side of the bridge" and the path going under the bridge for bike riders. On the West lookout point, you can take a selfie all along the parking lot stone wall.

I am landing in the San Fran lnternational terminal at 12:45pm with a domestic flight departing from the same airport at 8pm.
Please can I have an idea of the most efficient way to see (best views) and walk the bridge, before grabbing a crab chowder at the dock and returning to the airport. I probably have 2-3 clear hours.
Thanks!

That's a resounding yes as my first time seeing it was at night.Magical with the mists hovering over it.The bus 92 and 93 should get you there.Enough time to still take a long walk all the way to see the Palace of Fine Arts if you are up for it.

Go at night? What is the best way to see it at night? Is there a bus?

Bus is best and safest way around at night otherwise take an Uber for a round trip! It’s a must even though you don’t have much time. Enjoy.

I’ve biked the bridge multiple times, however I will be back with friends who have not experienced this must do activity. However, we will be visiting in the heart of winter, the second week of February and I fear it will be so cold on the bridge that we will not be able to enjoy ourselves? Has anyone biked in the winter months? If so, how was it for amateur bikers? TIA

We did it 2 weeks ago (Fisherman's Wharf-Sausalito - up Marin Heights and back to the city). The key is layers of workout gear that you can swap around . There are some steep climbs in the vicinity of the bridge which keep you nice and warm!!!But you will need a couple of layers and warm jacket if you stop . It was cold but blue sky when we did it-specatcular!
