The short drive though the hairpin turns of Lombard Street is a memorable experience. Not only is the crooked road an interesting site, but it is a beautiful and well manicured block which provides a nice view of San Francisco. more
You must drive it to experience it. However, do nto try to walk up the street as others have said it is very difficult walking. But take the time to drive down in and get the picture! more
I agree with all the great reviews. The best view is from the bottom of the street looking up. You can take a trolley to lombard (Hop of at Hyde Street and Lombard) then walk down the street. Once at the bottom you can take some great photos. This worked great since you do not have to walk up the... more
We drove down it twice just for the experience. Everyone has seen or heard of this street so when we were just driving around and passed it we absolutely had to make our way to the top to drive down. Wow, I would LOVE, love, love to own a house on this cute, quaint little street. The homes are beautiful... more
I visited Lombard Street during the first week of November while vacationing in San Francisco. I had just walked up and down the Coit Tower hill and then walked down and up Lombard Street until I got to the crooked/twisty part. What a walk/climb! I was tired by the time I reached the top. A trolley/street car goes by the... more

What was even more fun was seeing the Europeans standing in the middle of the intersection at the bottom, blocking traffic so they can take photos, and then getting mad when cars are honking at them. more
We luckily drove down Lombard street at the right time, hardly any wait. It was definetly something we thought we HAD to do on our trip to San Francisco. When we drove by later, I could not believe the long line of cars waiting to go down it. If you visit and the line is long, I would recommend just... more
The crooked portion of the street is somewhat close to the Wharf area, so I walked there. It was incredibly uphill but a good workout. There are police officers monitoring the cars at the beginning and end of the crooked portion. From the sidelines, the car drivers seemed to be enjoying the curvy road, and my fellow watchers were also... more
Lombard Street is one of the best kept residential streets I saw while I was in San Francisco. We got off the Cable Car at the top and walked down one side and back up the other. I have heard lots of people complain about the stairs but I was with my husband and two children, aged 5 and 8,... more
