We only had a sliver of time but we went up to the observation tower at the museum to see the Golden Gate Park. It was a memorable overview of the city and they had a terrific gift shop!

I loved the old de Young Museum, but I love the new de Young even more..visited the Jean Paul Gaultier exhibition (Mar 24 - Aug 19) recently because of my love of fashion as well as this innovative amazing designer....the displays of his exquisite, provocative designs are mesmerizing and incredibly inspiring "culturally revolutionary". Main museum is free on first Tuesdays... More

i have been all over the world and have seen great museums.....but do not miss the john paul gautier special exhibit going on now but for a limited time....absolutely the most innovative and mine boggling showing I have ever seen...you do not need to be a "fashion" person to appreciate.

What a surprising and imaginative exhibit -- Jean Paul Gaultier. We went to De Young and considered not buying the extra ticket for Gaultier. What a mistake that would have been. This was one of the best exhibits we have seen .. ever. Not only an outstanding display of Gaultier's fashion, but also an artistic and inventive exhibit. Race to... More

The permanent exhibit has a great collection of modern and historical art but veers more modern than other museums in the city. The layout is great though, I recommend going up to the tower to get a view of Golden Gate Park and San Francisco. Also, some of the rotating exhibits here are top notch so be on the look... More

We were fortunate enough to be in San Fran whilst this exhibition was on at de Youngs. My partner and I visited it with his daughters (25, 22) and my 11 year old son. I was very impressed with they way in which the exhibition was done, especially the projection of the faces onto the "dummies". This really kept everybody... More

10$ for the regular exhibit , 20$ for Gaultier. Absolutely worth it. Fantastic talking mannequins, over the top haute couture. Loved all the film clips featuring the costumes Gaultier designed for movies. Many costumes designed for Madonna and other pop stars are on display as well. Took transit got a discount.

I loved this museum more than my husband did primarily because I was in awe of the Jean Paul Gaultier exhibit. Note that the exhibit cost an extra $10.00
