I love theatre, history, and enjoy magic but this show missed the mark on all three counts. The performances were stiff or cheesy with nothing in-between. The history was not accurate and rather uninteresting. With so many wonderful SF stories and characters the ones they chose to portray were off the mark. The magic was obviously amateur and at time... More

Well, I loved this show. My husband and me were in town for our daughter’s graduation and found this show, and I loved hearing all about the odd and interesting people and sights in San Francisco and the show made me feel closer to the city. I don’t usually like magic shows, but this was different, they were more ‘happenings’... More

I went to this show over the weekend, partly due to the glowing reviews here on TA, and partly because I was staying in the hotel and it was convenient. I will say that the actors genuinely tried to make the show entertaining. World class magicians and storytellers, they are not. I have seen great close-up magic shows, but this... More

I perked up my business trip to SF with a visit to “Eccentrics of the Barbary Coast” and it was a fabulous night for me and a client. I’ve taken many trips to San Francisco, but now I feel I really know what made the city what it is and the people who laid its foundation. It’s more a series... More

This is a good spot to end the night for about 90 minutes to catch your breath. The four performers tell some interesting tales and do a bit of magic and pretty much make sure that most audience members play a little role in the show. Certainly not a big production show but a nice little show to see some... More

No tigers vanish and no people fly, but each of the tales is illustrated by some amazing bit of magic or other making the evening whiz by. The small cast is welcoming and have obviously done their homework. You can tell from the moment they step on the little stage they are experienced professionals. A charming show in a jewel-box... Eccentrics of San Francisco is a playful, mysterious, historical romp from members of an ensemble cast who are as faultless in their storytelling as they are in their magic. They create an "in your living room" intimacy without losing the show's sophisticated theatrical flair. This entertainment will delight visitors and residents equally. What a fabulous, fun show. It was the perfect blend of storytelling, history, and magic. As a Bay Area local, I just loved hearing these stories of the eccentrics of San Francisco...the variety was great, from the whimsical Mark Twain to the dark and scary Anton LeVay. The show has something for everyone. The stories are told with excellent magic... More

Very unique to San Francisco. Magic, Mystery, Madness! Wonderful to learn about this great city, whether a visitor or citizen. Such great history and eccentric people. The entertainers/story tellers/ magicians are top notch. The venue is intimate and cozy. A real find.

I was recently on a business trip to San Francisco (escaping the Chicago winter) and as I was staying at the Chancellor Hotel, caught the show that opened there, Eccentrics of the Barbary Coast. I’ve always liked trivia and local history, so the wit and charm of the performers totally captured my attention. On top of that there was some... More
