Up on the hills of the Legion of Honor has become my favorite spot of the city even during my first time in San Francisco. It's not just about the museum, but the atmosphere as a whole. When you drive up to the top of the hill from the Richmond neighborhood, or down to the North side of the Golden... More

From Rembrandt to Monet with a nice collection of Rodin sculptures. The museum takes you away offering excellent pieces from many periods. The cafe is elegant.

This is one of many locations in San Francisco that were featured in that film. On a sunny day, the museum looks like a king's or queen's palace somewhere in Europe. On a foggy day, it looks like a spot that's straight out of a mysterious dream. In any weather, it doesn't seem like it's in a big city at... More

The Legion of Honor Museum is my favorite museum in San Francisco. Located on a hill overlooking the city and Golden Gate Bridge, the views are fantastic. The permanent colleection consists of excellent examples of many periods. My favorites are 2 George de la Tour paintings, the collection of French furniture, the ceiling from a Spanish castle, and Dutch still... More

I have loved this museum ever since I was a little girl. The architecture is still gorgeous, they haven't turned it into a "modern monstrosity" like the De Young in San Francisco. Rodin's sculpture take up the entire center sunlit arched gallery. Downstairs, there is usually a special exhibit. They had a marvelous one on King Tug complete with video... More

I discovered that everything in San Francisco is "all about the views". When you read reviews of anything in SF, you will inevitably see the word "view." So, I admit the views from the museum are fantastic. But.... that should not be the driving reason for going there, because there are plenty of places with great views. You should go... More

I recommend taking the trolley, bus, bike and/or walk. Take your time. The whole afternoon. The property is iconic San Francisco, maybe. Sea cliffs and Monterey cypress. Meandering trails. And the squawk of sea birds, the deep booming wail of the inside buoey. Glimpses of Golden Gate Bridge. Robin's thinker dominates the courtyard at the museum and does so with... More

The Legion of Honor is well worth the time and energy required to visit. Public transport will deliver you to the door and what wonders await you once you are there. Enter the beautiful, spacious exhibition halls, talk with the friendly, knowledgeable staff, enjoy the sculpture, paintings, furniture, and artistic wonders that span millenia yet speak to today. Set in... More

Great permanent collection of art that is focused on historical and renaissance art. There is very little if any modern art here in the permanent collection but some of the rotating exhibits might be more modern. Also the view from here is great on a sunny day, so bring a picnic and enjoy.
