Beautiful piece of history in the middle of a bustling city. Worth the SMALL donation. Plan at least an hour, I believe we spent 1.5 hours wandering the grounds and taking photos. Simple place. Must stop if you are in the Mission District. It will frame your understanding of the whole area.

Don't like that you are stopped for a "donation" to go in and look, but oh well - classic mission church, don't miss the graveyard, take time to look at the markers of the many immigrants that came to San Francisco. Many died too young.

It's great if you have seen the film "Vertigo", other wise it is a historical land mark with a peaceful cemetary.

I had really wanted to visit this site due to it historical and religious significance. The outside of the Mission and the Basilica were great examples of architecture and neat to see. However, we were not able to see the inside because we could not find a parking space anywhere and we only had a short time because we had... More

Founded in 1776 - the year the Declaration of Independence was signed, the Mission Dolores has some great history. It is one of the 21 California Missions and has one of the only cemeteries remaining in San Francisco on it's grounds. I attended a wedding cerEmony there on a rainy Dec. 31st, one year and I must say, the old... More

Mission Dolores offers little to see for the price of admission, yet it's hard not to be fascinated by a building this old--and even the dated exhibits. If you like studying the cultural evolution of museum displays as well as buildings, there should be enough here to keep you busy for a bit under an hour. The garden is pleasant,... More
