If you are a film enthusiast, you must include the Castro Theater on your to-do list. The Theater itself is worth a visit, so the wonderful and eclectic programming is just a bonus. And the recent upgrades made it much more comfortable and accommodating.

Didn't watch a movie but went to see the history of this street, everything is how it has been portrayed in the movies and its so nice to see that everything is kept in good repair. The theatre is original (thats how it seems) and it was so nice to see families queuing for some of the old movies

Castro theatre with its confection-like interior is a beautiful old cinema in the Castro district. A short walk from the tram line and restaurants in Castro. A nice place to take in a movie when offered.

The organ makes this theater a must see. Go see the classics - the audience really gets into it!

The theater is as much of part of the experience as the movie. It's one of the old style movie palaces that is amazing.

We didn't get to see any features at the Castro. We simply got to see the outside of the building, however we got to experience the surrounding district which was a very pleasant experience. I would recommend going to this area if you have the chance.

I love, love, love the Castro theater. It's a beautiful old theater, built in the "movie palace" days, and the seats are old-fashioned, but comfortable. The films are an interesting range of classics, hard-to-rent obscure titles, popular films, and lots of film festivals happen here. Most nights, before the movie, there's an organ player who plays songs related to the... More

The Castro plays everything - if you time it right, you can even go to one of their many Sing-a-long musicals. Whatever you see. come a little early to enjoy the beautiful setting (including ceiling) and the fabulous live-playing organist who disappears into the ground with the curtain's rise!
