My wife and I visited Andersonville since she has a Great Great Grandfather and Uncle buried there. Andersonville is the site of the largest Civil War prison and cemetery for Union soldiers captured during the war. You can do a self-guided tour or partake in the guided tour and I recommend the latter as the Park Ranger gives you a... More

I went primarily because my husband mentioned this stop and he is really into history and civil war stories. I had no expectations, but when we got there to my surprise I really enjoyed it and glad that we stopped to visit. The museum is really informative and educational for all ages, even if this isn't your typical stop or... More

Very well done museum with a focus on POW's from all wars, very informative - and a portion of the prison restored outside to get perspective on the living conditions of a civil war prison. Beautiful cemetary and grounds. Very worth the trip if you appreciate this type of history.

and well worth your time. We were not sure what to expect from this visit. The history of Andersonville as a prisoner of war camp in the civil war is handled with dignity and respect for the Union soilders held at the camp as well as the Conferderate solders who controlled the camp. There is a very informative introductory film that... This is an incredible site to visit and not one to be missed. A bit out of the way but worth every effort to get here. The history of this site is incredible and cannot be missed by any Civil War or American history buff. The history books tell good stories about this part of the War but walking the... More

The journey around the prison grounds, aided by the audio provided at the visitor's center, plus a little imagination, puts you as an observer of the horrible conditions the prisoners faced.

This is actually my favorite part of Andersonville, although the museum is a really good one. At first it just looks like a giant field but there are replica cannons and tents that show how the men lived. There is also part of a wall with a guard tower and the deadline built to show what it looked like (scary)... More

This prison was highly overcrowded in 1864 and the conditions of the men were unbearable. You will learn all about it as you walk the grounds with a park ranger. It was horrible what took place here and to be fair the north also had prisons that were comparable. It doesn't cost a lot for the park ranger tour and... More

Let me start by saying that the park and museum is very impressive from a historical standpoint. We arrived just as a guided tour started and it was very well done. There was also a festival going on near by which was a lot of fun. So overall, it was a wonderful experience, but my girlfriend and I were looking... More
