Myself, my boyfriend, my son (10 years old), and our dog hiked and camped overnight on the John Muir Trail in Oneida, Tennessee. We started out at the Leatherwood Trail Head, and decided to play it by ear as to how far we hiked (our main concerns being how my son and the dog would hold up). We did this... More

This National wilderness area is one of the best places to go east of the Mississippi. It has good hiking, great scenery, horse trails, caves, river walks, fishing, wildflowers, etc. Our first time there, but highly recommend it to travelers who like wilderness areas.

What a huge park/recreation area! We decided to visit during spring break, which seemed to be the off season. There are miles and miles of surprisingly well-maintained gravel roads and 4x4 accessible roads that were a real treat for those that were in in our group that don't hike. The rivers and creeks were beautiful. Our favorite was the O&W... More

Made many, many trips to BSF during high school and college. So many hiking trails ideal for 1-5 nights. Lots of streams and rivers. Lots of wildlife. Very lush (rainforest). Check out twin arches, slave falls and cherit creek hostel (among other sights).

Bandy Creek Campground is marvelous with heated bathhouses and hot showers. Numerous hiking options, with Angel Falls Overlook and Twin Arches being two of my favorites. Maybe a somewhat unknown and therefore underused park, but that's changing. Beat the rush and check it out before it begins to get crowded.

I had never heard of this National Park before planning our most recent vacation. We visited Mammoth Caves first and were headed to the Smoky Mountains and needed someplace to stop and visit between the two places, Big South Fork was that place. We visited several overlooks and the visitor centers. I loved the views of the canyon and the... More

My parents were born and raised in the area now known as the "Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area" so I have been visiting the area long before it was designated as such and known nationally. Sadly, I have seen the once pristine area fall victim to litterbugs and vandals, graffiti is scrawled on rocks, bridges, signs, trees,... More
