We stopped by Jack in the Woods per the reco from staff at Thirst Monk. If you enjoy a good drink and live music, definitely give Jack's a try. Everyone was so friendly and we really enjoyed a celtic rock band from Wisconsin the night we tried it. Lots of fun! Worth the cover charge. If you stay downtown, this... more

This is a nice little Irish pub with a great downtown locale. I would have given it five stars, but our service was a little slow. However, our server was very polite and attended to us whenever he had an opportunity, as he was also helping a very large walk-in group. When we were there, there was a small five-... more

The service was good and the food was average to really good. I had the Guinness soaked burger with blue cheese, and OMG. AMAZING. It was huge and perfectly cooked. I don't recommend the fish and chips or the fish tacos, because the portion was extremely tiny. It was like 2 large fish sticks basically. But the ambiance and the... more

We went to Jack of the Wood for dinner. We got the garlic and rosemary cheese-fries, which were fantastic! The Irish stew was also fabulous, though the bread that went with it could have been better. My husband had the Green Man Stout (their micro-brew) and enjoyed it. My only complaint would be the noise: we were seated next to... more

Jack of the Wood - We were fortunate to have a sunny spring day to visit Jack of the Wood. We sat outside at one of the four narrow tables on the sidewalk. If there are only two people at the table ask to share. Most people outside had their dog with them. We went there for the beer and... more

Right in downtown Asheville. This place has loads of atmosphere and lots of different beers available, including local ones. And I love the food - hamburgers, fish & chips, yummy fish tacos, salads, sandwiches - all high quality, very tasty, and reasonably priced. And it's open for lunch. Also has entertainment many evenings. more

Fun bar. Kind of like an Irish pub on the inside. Only had drinks, no food. We tried several of the Green Man beers. Also, I've never much been exposed to bluegrass music but there was a great band playing (The Gibson Brothers) that the crowd was really into to. A good night of tunes and brews in a great... more

We stumbled upon Jack of the Wood for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. It was acutally quite busy and the service was a little slower than I would've liked but still attentive and good. The beers we tried were good & reasonably priced. We had an amazingly unique bowl of tomato and cheese soup that was good. But the jewel... more

What a great bar with attentive bartenders in a non-smoking environment! We loved Jack of the Wood and enjoyed hearing Delta Moon play there. Great crowd, great band, great beer! Kudos to Jack of the Wood. more

The drizzle was non stop, parking close to our destination was harder than normal but we lucked out and parked near the big purple building. We hurried up the hill towards our goal as the wife continually poked me in the side of her head with her umbrella. We ducked and dodged an old crazy man crossing the street while... more
