If you like to mountain bike, go here. If you like to hike, go early in the morning, the fog on the fern covered forest floor is worth it.

I have to say that I was very disappointed in my stay at Lake Powhatan campground in Asheville,NC on 5/25-526/2012 When I arrived and standing in line, a car drove up and was told only one site was left and only available for one night. The person in the car said he would take it and went to park his... More

The trails in this location are rough, rocky, and uneven. If you are planning to walk or ride a bike, go to the Arboretum next door. Their trails are level and well-kept.

Great trails but, print some trail maps as a big one is very hard to use. Beautiful!

When looking for the Recreational Lake Powtan (which was still closed when we went) we continued into this forest. Lots of primitive camp sites and winding mountain top unpaved roads

Fine place for hiking, biking, and some trails are suitable for baby carriages. Lesser traveled trails are not marked as carefully as they might be, but with a good sense of direction there should be no problem. Maps are hard to come-by, I guess due to cuts in federal aid.

Great family outing any time of year. There is always something interesting happening in Bent Creek. Kids will love seeing the flora, fauna, and wildlife. Parents will enjoy seeing their children enjoying nature.

We camped at one of the tent only sites on the Big John loop of the Lake Powhatan Campground for three nights. Our site was #16. We had a water spigot across the lane from us. It was relatively private but other sites allowed for seclusion. We pitched two tents and there was ample room along with the picnic table... More
