I think one of the the things that moved me the most is the fact that this site is actually in the Monroe Elementary School which was one of the four segregated elementary schools for African Americans in Topeka. You walk through the front doors and you are in the school hallway and everything is down low including the water... more

This is one of the very BEST exhibits that I've ever seen, and I used to work in one of the Smithsonians. Their use of technology is superb. The use of photographs is moving. All Americans should learn more about the struggles of our Civil Rights movement. A visit here will enhance one's understanding of this important part of our history. While it is helpful to research this topic before visiting, a visit here can spark further interest in the topic. As a historic site visitors need to do a lot of exhibit reading.... more

We visited this fairly new National Park site in February of 2005. We were just stopping on our way home from a long road trip, but I was worth the time.
