Try and visit this museum if you can it is absolutely fascinating. We toured the apartments that two families lived in and saw photos of them and learned their history. They are furnished in the period and the attention to detail is very impressive. Our tour guide Jennifer was very well informed and impressive with her knowledge. The other people... more

I took the Piecing It Together tour toward the end of the day on a weekday. It was easy to get tickets, just walk up to the register in the gift shop and hear what options of tours available to you. There were 6 people on the tour I went on, including the tour guide. The guide was knowledgeable and... more

I visited the museum with a friend. We're both from England but many of the other tourists were from the US. We went on the "Getting by: Immigrants Weathering Hard Times" which used the stories of two immigrant familities from Germany and Sicily as a starting point to discuss how housing and social welfare has changed over the years. We... more

We went to NYC this week, and our plans included visiting the Lower East Side Tenement Museum. At first glance, it appears from the museum's website that the museum tour will cost $20 a person. We thought that was a little high, but since my husband is from The Netherlands and had never seen a tenement before, we thought this... more

We really enjoyed our tour. Our educator was really informative. She made us walk in the shoes of these immigrant families in a vivid way. She questioned our assumptions and made us realise how lucky we are to live the way we do. more

This is a good little museum if you want a look into life in late 19th century and early 20th century New York. However, the building itself is not particularly big and could easily be covered in a one hour tour. But you can't do that because the guided tours apparently only cover one floor each. So if you want... more

We took two tours: The Irish Family & The Garment Workers. Thoroughly enjoyable. We had a guide called Darryl for the Garment tour who was superb. Very enthusiastic and clearly loved what he was doing. Its a little hard to find as, in the USA, they do not seem to bother having signs for attractions so, after coming out of... more

My fiancee and I visited here on 1 March 2009 and did The Moores: An Irish Family in America tour. The guide was very informative, friendly knew what she was talking about. The building has been untouched since the 1930's and it gives a real insight in to what modern day new york was built upon. This might not be... more

This place stays with you well past the tour. Seeing where and how these middle class people lived - not really that long ago (100 years, give or take) blew my mind. Was not expecting what I ended up getting. Tour guide ready and willing to answer questions and really brought this place, and the day to day experiences of... more
