The Whitney is dedicated to collecting, preserving, interpreting, and exhibiting American art, and its collection—arguably the finest holding of twentieth-century American art in the world—is the Museum’s key resource. The Museum’s signature exhibition, the Biennial, is the country’s leading survey of the most recent developments in American art. « less

Not as fdamous as MOMA The Guggenheim or the Met, nonetheless the Whitney is a must-see for gallery lovers in NY. Just remember it and most (not MOMA) museums are closed on Mondays

Great presentation by Werner Herzog (film) and Ernst Reijseger (music) in a special theater room where you could sit on small benches, the floor or stand. The presentation, especially the music, was spellbinding. The rest of the collection was extremely disappointing, slightly above the worst collection we've seen -- at the modern art museum in Barcelona.

We visited the Whitney for a Sunday afternoon activity. While I do not relate to the art that they have, the display areas were sparse. What we could see of their collection is disappointing to those of use not imbued with the contemporary art scene.

I'm sorry. Maybe it's just me, but I just didn't get this place. I am not impressed by a room with six canvases painted white - and that wasn't the strangest exhibit.

After reading all the hype surrounding this year's Biennial, the bf and I heading into the museum thinking we'd be blown away. Unfortunately, we found it underwhelming. We enjoyed the past three or four Biennials, but found this year's was lacking an overarching theme. Sometimes the personal experience of art can be a theme in and of itself, but the... More

I went to this museum especially to see the Biennial as it is a major event in the city's art calendar. I went on a Sunday afternoon, which is probably the worst time to go because it was pretty crowded. I appreciated the range of events, catering for all ages with something for children through to special events for adults,... More

very user friendly, nice to make a sweep of this, the Frick, the Asian Society and then have lunch before or during the sweep. Nice collection, always something interesting. Have been here multiple times, never disappoints.

Interesting to view different artists. One actually moved her studio in the museum to work on her creation. Another was actually performing live. Take the free tour, so worth it!

I love the Whitney - a museum in NYC dedicated to American art. It's in a concrete modern structure on Madison Ave in the 70s which is incongruous with the neighborhood but it works. The Biennial happens every 2 years (duh) and this year's is pretty interesting. There are fewer large installations and many more performances. One artist, Dwan Kasper,... More
