Great presentation by Werner Herzog (film) and Ernst Reijseger (music) in a special theater room where you could sit on small benches, the floor or stand. The presentation, especially the music, was spellbinding. The rest of the collection was extremely disappointing, slightly above the worst collection we've seen -- at the modern art museum in Barcelona.
We visited the Whitney for a Sunday afternoon activity. While I do not relate to the art that they have, the display areas were sparse. What we could see of their collection is disappointing to those of use not imbued with the contemporary art scene.
I'm sorry. Maybe it's just me, but I just didn't get this place. I am not impressed by a room with six canvases painted white - and that wasn't the strangest exhibit.

very user friendly, nice to make a sweep of this, the Frick, the Asian Society and then have lunch before or during the sweep. Nice collection, always something interesting. Have been here multiple times, never disappoints.
Interesting to view different artists. One actually moved her studio in the museum to work on her creation. Another was actually performing live. Take the free tour, so worth it!
I love the Whitney - a museum in NYC dedicated to American art. It's in a concrete modern structure on Madison Ave in the 70s which is incongruous with the neighborhood but it works. we visited the biennial and it was a lovely experience. you can tour the museum in two hours or so. we especially enjoyed the room of embroidered art.
