After many trips to NYC, we finally decided to visit the Cloisters this year. It's part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, located in Fort Tryon Park at the northern tip of Manhattan. It exhibits art and architectural elements from medieval Europe in a setting that provides context. So you don't simply see a stained glass window or a decorated... more

The Cloisters is a collection of joined Catholic temples, grottos and gardens. There many incredibly old stone pillars. The mixture of art, architecture and gardening was very nice and peaceful. I'm an Athiest, but I was raised Catholic. So even though I'm not a big fan of Jesus (and religen in general), this place was pretty cool. I realy enjoyed... more

Don’t get me wrong the Cloisters were very nice they had an impressive collection of old artifacts. If you are like me the entertainment value is not worth the 20$ per person suggested price they were asking for. I gave a donation of 20$ for me and my wife. The grounds are large and well kept. more

Thirty years ago my senior English teacher in Texas recommended that we go to The Cloisters to see the Unicorn Tapestries. I've been to Manhattan several times since then and finally made it to The Cloisters with my wife and teenagers. This is a beautiful piece of architecture that is constructed around and incorporating medieval architectural elements. The history of... more

I came here on vacation a bit back, and while it is a bit out of the way, it is definitely worth it. It really is a little slice of heaven that stands out from the rest of Manhattan. I lucked out with beautiful weather when I visited, which made it all the better. Come here and you're leaving the... more

I have been to the Cloisters yesterday, the surroundings are great (and for free), but that is not why i went there... I went to see the museum and to be honest to me it was very disappointing!. Maybe for the US this is as close as you can get to a real Cloister, but believe me it misses the... more

This is well worth a visit, but don't expect anything like the Metropolitan Musuem of Art on Central Park (of which it's a part). Your $20 admission gets you into both, but the Cloister's collection is much less dense and is more about communicating a sense of space than overwhelming you with gallery after densely packed gallery. Take the A... more

The Cloisters is always my first stop when I'm in NYC. Quite simply, the best combination of collection and setting that you are likely to find anywhere. A large portion of the Met's medieval art collection is located here, situated in a museum incorporating transported medieval monasteries, all assembled on a high point in rustic Fort Tryon Park and with... more
