MUSEUM OF AMERICAN FINANCE A temple of capitalism A number of years ago we visited a Museum of Finance, which at the time was located in the dingy basement of a building on lower Broadway and were not impressed. That’s when we ran into the Museum’s new place, 48 Wall St., we got in immediately. 48 Wall Street is the... More

The Museum of American Finance located in the financial district of Manhattan is a "secret little treasure" in a city known for its large museums. The day we visted, we paid a "bargain" price of $5 each--my two sons and myself. It is located right near the American Stock Exchange in a very historic area. The building itseld is beautiful--marble,... More

Has some interesting artifacts like the first edition of WSJ, the ticker tape machine, and all the US $ denominated bills. Also has a side display to Hamilton, the "father of American finance".

It's a wonderful museum with fine lectures and good exhibits. The building itself is worth a visit.

A wonderful museum to learn about the history of money in the US, however there were large classes of teens that arrived w/ teachers during our visit and overwhelmed the small place ( the teachers were loudly lecturing the kids who appeared to be very bored by the place). Our little group of older adults were very entertained by the... More

I really enjoyed my visit to this museum. It's not too big, but you can easily spend 1-2 hours here walking all around, learning about the history of US banking policies, the stock market, US currency and how it's changed over time, and major frauds and scandals in US history. There are some really cool exhibits and artifacts scatter throughout.... More

My husband is a finance buff and insisted that we visit this Wall Street Museum. There was a terrific exhibit on Alexander Hamilton, as well as permanent exhibits about the stock market and history of the use of currency and checks. The small gift shop had some very nice pieces of original art. Certainly worth the time!

I was curious about this museum that was next to my hotel. I was attending a teacher workshop at the NYSE and thought it appropriate to stop in. The museum had the life size figures of Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr pointing the pistols at each other for their famous duel in the open area. The museum is pretty comprehensive... More

This was a great overview of just what it says, American finance. The museum covers the history of American finance through recent times (yep, Bernie Madoff is included) and does so in an interesting way so that you're not bored while you're learning more and more about the occasionally dry topic of fundage. We went in not knowing what to... More

I literally stumbled upon it by chance from across the street and decided to check it out spontaneously since I had a few hours to kill. Probably would have missed it if I had been on the other side and walked straight past its inconspicuous entrance. Open Tue-Sat 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.; Admission is $8, $5 for students/seniors; free...
