May 2012...absolutely not worth the money. We booked our tickets in advance and there was no mention anywhere on the website that 80% of the museum would be closed due to the installation of an installation. Stunning architecture but that could not even remotely make up for what was missed.
We entered and then exited. It's $80 per person unless you stick around until later in the day. Then you can have less than two hours and limited access to the museum, but you name the price. Really??? It's a shame...I'm a huge art fan and would have loved to look around.
May be it was our fold, but we had expected much more. On top there were moving due to the preparation of a new exhibit so part of the exhibition was closed. 1 out of 4 floors was worthwhile to see, but these were really top paintings of great masters. This made it partially ok.
We walked across Central Park to the museum. We were a bit disappointed with the exhibition that was currently on display although the paintings in the side rooms were worth looking at. Unless you are an art buff it may be better to skip this museum.
Iconic building. Go just to look at the architecture. Not a fan of modern art, but enjoyed Thannhouser Collection
We visited the museum on a Monday - which is the day the Metropolitan Art Museum is closed. It rained and we stood in line for half an hour to enter. The spiral is closed until the end of June 2012 in preparation of a new exhibit. There is only one room (on the second floor) with about 25 paintings....

I loved this museum. I had a great time there. It's beautiful inside and out. It's also in a very nice location.
Most of the museum was empty with big woodden boxes scattered around. They still charged the full price to see probably less than a third of it.
Unfortunately the ramps were closed due to installations but as a result we were charged half price. A good way to spend a few hours and the building itself is wonderful.
