There are some nice museums and interesting attractions there, but also a lot of chain stores and obvious touristy draws. I would recommend swinging through if you are down that way, but I wouldn't plan a ton of time down there. more

The port offers a great view of Brooklyn Bridge and for this alone is worth a visit! But the area is for tourists alone and they are plenty of buses around. more

Easy to access via the subway, great views, walking distance to the Brooklyn Bridge, lots of festivities nearby, good food. The Bodies exhibit is also enjoyable. more

I discovered the seaport on a previous trip to New York. Whilst being a bit of a walk from the nearest subway station at Fulton Street, it is well worth a visit. Pier 17 seems to always be buzzing with people and live entertainment set to a backdrop of old ships masts and the skyscrapers of the financial district. The... more

This, as others have indicated, is worth a morning look around. We went on the ships and to the museum. It took about 2 hours. We also ate at Pizza Uno’s. It was good food at a reasonable price. The view of the Brooklyn Bridge is worth the trip itself. Included in your admission are three museums (whaling, cruise ships,... more

This place is definitely worth a visit. As others have mentioned, its not a place to spend a day, but it was ok to look around for a few hours. In our opinion, it definitely resembled Baltimore's Inner Harbor area. The stores and food court were fine. The best aspect of this place was the view of the Brooklyn Bridge,... more

As an historian, I tend to look for glimpses into our past - the seaport provides some with the beautiful historic ships, and a museum that's well worth a look. However, the rest of the district is basically a glorified mall. While not necessarily a bad thing (I'd rather see them use the historic buildings for something instead of tearing... more

South Street Seaport was very interesting and worth a little time. I wouldn't spend all day there but it is a great place to roam around for a while and take some great pictures. We actually ate a Pizza Uno there and had some Chicago Pizza in NYC. There are some other places around to eat or just snack and... more

South Street Seaport is located south of the Brooklyn Bridge. After walking the Brooklyn Bridge it was time to slow down a bit. South Street Seaport is a nice place to unwind and relax. Here I was sitting on a bench, watching the (many) tourists and the ships. These ships are now museums. The ships are docked along the pier.... more

We didn't do the museum, but the rest of this site is nothing more than a repackaged version of your typical suburban shopping mall. I needed to come all this way to shop at Gap and Sunglass hut? And the surrounding neighborhood is a cesspool of trash and debris from the fish market. Just imagine the smell. more
