Jackie was funny, outgoing, energetic, deeply knowledgeable about the area and plied us with food and food and more food (I'll let the pictures speak for themselves) while she verbally illustrated a beautiful history of local areas and traditions.

My family and I had the pleasure of joining Jackie on a recent tour and tasting. Our group of 5 was well-fed and enjoyed learning about the culture and cuisine of Harlem. It's amazingly diverse. We sampled healthy green tea at an organic chef training program, chicken and waffles, rugelah, Sengalise lamb chops, Dominican chicken and flan, and ended the... More

Good tour with good food and lots of it, sampling of full meals at most stops. Insights into area cultural history and established as well as newly open businesses.

Harlem is an area that everyone, even life-long New Yorkers, has an opinion on; but few outsiders actually know the area. It's a vibrant, exciting, historic, multi-ethnic community, and this tour gives you an excellent look at all its facets. The woman who designed the tour is also the extremely knowledgeable guide; the groups are small, so each tour is... More

As a recent arrival to the neighborhood of Sugar Hill/West Harlem/Hamilton Heights, I wanted to learn more about the arts and culture that surround me. New Yorkers and those visiting are so fortunate to have a rich, dense variety of talent on the stage, in restaurants, in museums, galleries, and marketplaces at their fingertips! One way to sample all of... More

The tour sounded good but the neighborhood iffy. We decided to take the tour and boy! Are we glad we did! We had an excellent tour and learned so much about Harlem - things you would never imagine. We learned about the history of Harlem which is really fascinating. Our guide George was very very knowledgeable. When you are looking... More

I was very interested to have access to private galleries and the artists directly. Traveling by trolley was great! What feel a bit flat for me was the pacing of the day was off, did not have a lot of time at some of the galleries and I was disappointed with the relation of art to galleries. Many art pieces... The Artcrawl Harlem art tour was an absolute delight to attend. Within a very small radius in Spanish Harlem, we were treated to a very diverse and broad range of artists and art genres. The tour guide was quite knowledgeable of both the local histories and of the artists themselves. At the end of the day, we were treated to... More

ArtCrawl is a wonderful way for art enthusiasts and novices alike to sample several art forms in one fell swoop. My art lover friend, invited me to accompany her this past Saturday to the Spanish Harlem Artcrawl. This tour sharpened my appreciation for 'community' art. After viewing art on or in various neighborhood stores, parks, gardens, subways and business establishments... More

A little disorganized, but a spectacularly beautiful fall day with trips to different galleries in and around Spanish Harlem. I really enjoyed Museo del Barrio and the Artist Lofts on 116th Street. But a long, long day -- we started at noon and did not return to the Burgos Cultural Center until nearly six. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes! Make... More
