The station reopened in 1976 as a temporary exhibit of MTA New York City Transit to commemorate the US Bicentennial, and became a permanent museum due to widespread public support. The Museum closed in late 2001 for a 2 year renovation that resulted in new life safety systems, upgraded mechanical and electrical systems, and refurbished exhibits. The musuem has since re-opened. « less

I suggest many Chinese friends who are planing to visit New York : please visit New York Musum firstly.Because you can see more traditional Chinese Cherish there than in Beijing National Museum.

If you like public transit, especially the New York subway and bus system, then this is the museum for you! Having grown up riding the subway, this museum answers the questions I had as a kid.

Very interesting to see how the subway system was built and to see the various subway cars that were used over the years.

Took my 10 year old nephew who loves trains... The first part of the museum was uber boring for him but not me. I enjoyed reading of the history, how they built the tunnels, and how minorities helped but were unfortunately discrimminated against. The most exciting was the buses and turnstiles on the main floor. I loved reading the history... More

While I am a transit/rail enthusiast, I had low expectations for this museum, considering the $6 admission cost (prices went up by $1 the day before we arrived), but I must say we were all pleasantly surprised at the number and quality of exhibits. First, the location itself - the museum is housed in an abandoned subway station in downtown... More

We were looking for a family-friendly activity for a cold and windy Saturday after Thanksgiving, when the better known museums in Manhattan are mobbed. We'd heard good things about the recently renovated transit museum, and decided to give it a try. Great choice. It's a bit hard to find, since it's below ground, in the former Court Street subway station,... More

This museum was well worth the journey over to Brooklyn (walk the bridge or take the subway). Its housed in a dis-used subway station. The visual displays and the old photos are great. There is also a programme of films on . It really was very interesting to see how the city gets moving both in the past and today.... More
