In contrast to some other reviews have to report we had a great time here. Maybe it's cos we're Brits so used to poor service ;-). Music was tremendous, cover charge I thought was pretty reasonable for the standard of music (25$), yes it's cramped, but beers weren't that expensive compared to some / most clubs I have visited. We... More

Although historically this is pretty cool, it is a small, cramped, dingy jazz club, and the house band is average at best. Worth going to if there was a specific band you were interested in.

I went to this subterranean jazz club with a group on a Saturday night. Some online ticketing was available, and the gentleman with whom I spoke on the telephone about adding an extra guest was very courteous and helpful. The experience itself left a bit to be desired for me, however. Every seat in the place was sold out, and... More

Famous Jazz Club - many tourists - a little too expensive considering what else is out there. Trading on their name. We listened to accomplished trio led by Barry Harris.

About a half century ago, a top critic described New York's jazz clubs as "sewers with chairs." There a few exceptions now, of course, but not much has changed, especially New York's oldest continually operating jazz club. So don't go to the Vanguard for the food (there is none), the ambience (there's not much of that, either, unless you can... More

Crowded tables, musty smell, horrible ladies room...about what you would expect from an old school jazz venue. That said, it's still a cool place to go hear music, if it's someone you want to see. I wouldn't go here just to go to the venue. Reasonable $25 cover the night we were there with a one drink minimum, (and only... More

I went to an eclectic jazz performance here with several friends from college (30 years ago), it was a typical atmosphere of a classic jazz club, downstairs with seats in close proximity to each other, and crowded walkways with the expected manuvering to get around. It represented an opportunity to experience classic music in The Village, without spending an exhorbitant... More

This long-time Greenwich Village jazz club has lost much of its attraction - neither the music programme nor the services go with the times! Admission fees and drinks have to be paid in cash, beer list is crap, we ordered a wine (Cheverny 2008) that was not worth the 48 dollars we paid, no photo policy is not in line... More

Music depends on the artists. So it's your choice whether or not to come and listen to the artists playing here. This is not where you come for drinks, really. If you want to eat something, there's a pizza shop right outside so you can eat there before the music starts. The club is just fine. I loved the performance... More

I went to the Village Vanguard last night for the first time and the entire time, I kept thinking: wow, my life is just a dream to be able to be here! First the nuts and bolts, since there are are only 7 entries here about this Greenwich Village treasure. The Vanguard was a lot bigger than I thought it... More
