Went to Top of the Rock late on a Sunday night to see the night time view. The wait was acceptable and the views breathtaking. Unlike other reviewers, we found the Empire State Building much more accessible, shorter lines and the view was more spectacular because you are higher. We went on Thanksgiving weekend, we were pleasantly surprised at how little time you spent waiting--truly no longer than 5 minutes. You should plan to go up right before dusk so you can see the views during the daylight and then wait just a short time and see the NY skyline come to life before your eyes. A MUST DO!!!! more

Both are grand buildings but the Top of the Rock observation areas are larger, less congested and just wonderful. Plus you can look across at the Empire State Building. Crowd control is efficient with lines moving right along. more

Must do! Very well run and organised. The view was breathtaking, especially looking out over central park - something out of a movie. We went in the middle of a weekday and there was plenty of room to take your time and wonder around the 3 levels. more
