I have not visited but believe that it should be a must for all travelers to Ventura.

It's amazing how being steps from the streets of 2012, you are such a short distance from life as it was in the 1700's. The church, church museum and the gardens are all very worthwhile. Though the place is still *used* I think that adds to its charm. There's a small tour and a gift shop that's a bit kitsch-y but worth a look.

What a beautiful mission. It is set in such a gorgeous downtown area. My favorite by far is the Mission San Luis Rey, however, this one is rather impressive as well. Mission Carmel is worth a visit too.

We attended the Palm Sunday service - it was well attended, and the Father officiating was warm and welcoming. The service was moving, We went to the museum and shop - and took the self guided tour. Another of California's lovely missions on the mission trail. Very quiet and tranquil...lovely landscaping and flowers.
