I've never seen a crater like this anywhere else in the U.S. The sides display a surprising number of colors and strata. Plus you can hike to the bottom and explore the crater's center. There's also a path that goes all around the rim. Even if you don't want to do the hike ... it's definitely worth the climb up... more

Interesting natural feature to see, especially if you have an interest in geology! Worth the extra drive up to the north end of Death Valley National Park. Be sure to bring extra water - hot and dry and you lose water quickly when hiking around this area. Hiking is somewhat difficult due to loose volcanic soil. more
