You've seen pictures of this, or at least in the film, Close Encounters, but it is much more spectacular in person. It is so unique that it's worth the trip if you are anywhere in the area, including driving up from the Black Hills like we did. The Tower trail is a great way to see the Tower, as it is paved and all, and most folks seem to stick to that trail...... but for more scenery and a bit more hiking challenge, we reccomend combining the Red Bed trail from the corner of the parking lot to the Soth Side Trail, and then the Valley View... more

Stopped here for a few hours on my way to Yellowstone. Devil's Tower is worth the stop if you are in the area. I took a hike on the relatively easy loop trail around the base of the rock. Drove 200 miles round trip to go to Devils Tower. Amazing!! Can't wait to go back. Wonderful hiking trails and amazing views. Not gaudy or touristy, a wonderfull place for anyone of any age. A must if you get even within a few hundred miles!! more
