The lighthouse and museum inside are worth a visit and the gun emplacements are very interesting. But there's now a $10 per vehicle per day charge so it costs a lot for a half-hour visit. I used to take all my out-of-town visitors there, but we don't go there any more.

If you spend time in one state park on Whidbey Island, this one should be it. It's possible to go into the abandoned gun emplacement bunkers and also the Admiralty Head Lighthouse (at least on weekends). There is a bit of everything. The views are spectacular, lighthouse staff is knowledgable and friendly, the fort is fun to explore. You are likely to spot deer grazing and eagles soaring. It tends to be windy so come prepared. I am a local photographer and this is one of my favorite places to visit on photo shoots.

Interesting enough for adults, and open enough for the kids to run around. There is a nice big open field to fly a kite or have a picnic.

We went no knowing what to expect--this place was so cool. It was really neat to walk around the bunkers, climb up the big canons, and the views were amazing.
