The visitors center has a good book selection and an exhibit that simplifies the history of the area. A path leads you past important inscriptions on the sandstone outcropping located near a rare spring. Continue on the trail for a two mile round trip hike to the top of the mesa. From the top you look down on a beautiful... More

My Daughter and I recently went to El Morro in April 2012. The views are stunning. You can take a small hike or the 2 mile hike. We took the 2 mile hike which takes you up switchbacks to the top of El Morro and to the Pueblo ruins. It's steep but worth the hike. Take some water with you... More

On the first part of the hike you see interesting signatures. Amazing the quality of the work. Make sure you get the guide at the visitor center to understand the history. The hike to the top is easy and worth it considering the great view. If it's very windy, you may want to skip this especially with young children. The... More

What an impressive formation out in nowhere. We had lots to see in the area, but are really glad we made time to stop here. The inscriptions on the rock were very moving. So many have stopped here for the water at the foot of the rock. Wish we had more time to hike to the Indian ruins at the... More

See graffiti from the 1600's preserved as settlers and military came through. Self quided tour tells you when and why they came by. If you are able take the hike to the top. There is no better view in the area! Amazing wild flowers too.

We stopped at El Morro while driving from Albuquerque to Chinle, AZ. The historical significance of this place is quite substantial. You take an easy walk for about an hour and you see carvings on the side of a cliff. These carvings date back to native petroglyphs and include signatures and notes from Spanish explorers and American settlers.

My family and I stopped here this past June while vacationing in the southwest. What a great place! Not only do you get to learn and SEE history, but you also get to enjoy the beauty and serinity of this park. There's a trail which takes you around the base of the sandstone cliff/mesa. Along with a small pond located... More

Went several years ago. Only a few people were here. So for most of the hike I was alone. Awe inspiring to know over 400 years ago someone else stood where you are now standing. Took my time looking at all the inscriptions. The pool of water wasnt very big, but you can see the footholds that the indians used... More
