where our kids bike and skateboard everywhere, you can run on the beach, have beers by the sand dunes and sea oats, great food and bands...not that we want tourists.. this is no disney world but its a great place to hang out

Atlantic Beach is next to Jacksonville Beach. It is quieter and never crowded. I think it would be fair to say just a little bit more upscale area.

Great little shops and independent restaurants all within walking distance to the beach and a few hotels. The town and beach is clean and never too crowded.

A great little family-oriented beach community with lots to offer: great restaurants, community theater and shopping, as well as golf and fabulous beaches.

Not tourist friendly. Should have more for people, esp. sailors coming into port at Mayport, instead they have to go to Orlando or St Augustine,(the rubber alligator capitol) just to purchase items to take home to prove that they have really been to Florida. You need less ocean front motels and condo's,and more Florida.

Nice quiet seaside town. Great to walk around the streets and enjoy the shops and good restaurants.

Wide, clean beach with a cute friendly town to explore!

North of the tourist and local "beachy" area, Atlantic Beach is more sophisticated and not as crowded. Beach access is not as readily available and parking can be an issue, but if you can find parking, go to the beach there to avoid the crowds and throngs of football throwing high school guys and squealing groups of high school girls.
