This is a fun experience for all ages. You can climb the dunes & get a good work out. There is a camp ground near by for campers & tents. A Lodge is on the road into the Park. They have gas & some camping supplies, The Park has evening programs through out the summer w/ the Rangers. Great views... More

The sandunes are a fun place for all ages. Walk to the top of the dunes and slide down. The river runs through it and it's nice after a hot day to play in the water. While in the area visit the Alligator Farm and go to the nearest hotspring and soak. Super hot in the summer months. Bring lots... More

With a family, don't forget to bring goggles and something to ride down the dunes with like a cardboard box or sled. We definitely brought our sunscreen and water. Lots of families were playing in the streams that run-off from the mountain and create a really fun water and mud lane to cool of in with the kids. Such a... More

This is one of my favorite places period. The dunes take on this surreal appearance with the backdrop of the mountains and blue skies. The scene is absolutely picturesque. Climbing around in the dunes is also a different experience. Plan to spend a few hours here- at the base of the dunes and depending on the month you wade through... More

Completely untouched- fantastic place to admire the glory of nature AND get exercise. Good for all ages! Nature Center wonderful and new and the Ranger there is a geologist who is highly knowledgeable and interested in sharing what she knows with all ages. A highlight of my life travels.

Great Sand Dunes is really unusual. It's like being in the Sahara Desert while you're in the middle of the Colorado Rockies. A completely unlikely juxtaposition. Any able-bodied person can enjoy this park, and the more you are willing to hike, the more you'll enjoy it, but even small children will have a ball here. The dunes are fun to... More

The dunes are amazing - the tallest sand dunes in America, hundreds of miles from a sea shore. Kids can sled down them - our 8-yr-old had a blast. There's no place like it on the continent. Although I grew up in SoCal, I built my best ever sand castle out of damp sand - 3 inches down was ice,... More

A fantastic day out with the family. Everyone enjoyed climbing the sand dunes. Definitly bring a backpack with water/small snacks and plan to find sand in all sorts of odd places later... . The sand dunes were not only fun but the modern Visitor's Center was very educational with hands-on displays for the children.
