For a relaxing afternoon, be sure to see this point of interest. The pedal boats are great!

Lake Ouachita is THE best. We love it It offers lots of different places to camp, and we have camped at several. Lake Ouachita State Park, and Tompkins Bend ( Shangri-La) are favs. And if it rains, there is LOTS of stuff to do/see nearby. Hot Springs has the Best bath houses, filled with true hot spring water. Love the fact that it is not overbuilt like Lake Hamilton and the Corp limits the buildings

A friend I was visiting has access to a pontoon boat. She took us on a sunset cruise and stopped at several of the many islands on the lake.

This lake was the 5th largest manmade lake in the US when it was created in the 1930s. It is completely urrounded by national forest, with access controlled by licensed resorts. The lake is so big that they number the islands so people can find their way back. Visibility can be up to 100', and there are kelp beds to... More

We hiked along the lake from Trails End Road (off #227) to Tompkins Campground and back) in five hours, leisurely. Shady trail, benches to rest, picinic at Tompkins, had a great time.

The lake is very pristine and is surrounded by the Ouachita Mountains. There is canoeing and kayaking available on the rivers surrounding the lake. Horseback riding is also nearby. This is a great lake to escape from all the water sports going on during the week and weekend on Lake Hamilton.
