My fault for not reading here first, as I took a long hot walk through the park from the trolley to reach the zoo, which was very pleasant at the time, but by the end of the day I regretted it. Took the free shuttle back to the trolley, which for $1.25 takes you through the Garden District back to... more
I have always wanted to tour the NO zoo. Very nice, beautiful exhibits. The elephants need a larger habitat but this zoo allows you to get really close to the animals. The Louisiana swamp area was really interesting. The signs are not good; neither is the map. Very confusing. We kept double-backing in areas. Ticket sales people were rude. Also... more
A fabulous zoo. Prior to Katrina, on my first trip to NO, a friend and I saw the aquarium in the morning, and took a very nice riverboat ride down to the zoo. We had purchased our tickets before the trip and it was amazing! A great experience. After Katrina we've been back twice and both time's the river boat... more
Took 3yr old boy and twin 1yr old girls to zoo. First trip to New Orleans Zoo. Arrived at opening, 10:00am and all the animals were out and about. Stayed for 3 hours. By noon it was already 90 degrees and very humid. Kids loved it. more
A large number of us stayed in New Orleans at the end of May to attend the wedding of dear friends held at The Audubon Zoo. It was such a magical experience! The wedding was held by the Elephant fountain and the reception on the other side of the zoo by the alligators. What a beautiful place this is! I'm... more
This zoo is fairly small, and the whole thing can be seen in 2 hours (3 if you really want to spend a long time watching the animals). However, it is clean, beautifully landscaped, and a good way to spend part of a day. I particularly liked the Swamp exhibit; there were some good displays, lots of animals to watch,... more
This zoo is one of the btter zoos in the country and has a good cross section of animals in a variety of habitats. SOme fo the animals you will likely never have seen anywhere else and some are rather common but it is a good mix. The zoo is very well maintained and has a good assortment of food... more
CLEANEST zoo I have ever been in. We loved the natural looking habitats , and learned a lot of Louisiana History. The Carousel was lovely, very unique. Nice shady zoo, with very lush plant life. We enjoyed the scenery as much as the animals. I loved the Bayou and Swamp cabin exhibits. BEWARE: this is a huge zoo, and your feet... more
I lived across the street from the Audubon Zoo for almost 5 years and was a member for most of them. I now live in Southern California and firmly believe that though the Audubon Zoo is smaller than the San Diego Zoo, its exhibits are far better in every way. In this case, smaller is better (ie: less walking and... more
