We went there late. It was supposed to be closed, doors were wide open so we took a look. Lots of history there, should have taken a cemetery tour. Very impressive

Walk thru while it's busy or else you might end up in some bad company. It was very historical and very cool to see how old some of those were.

I love cemeteries so this was a real treat. They're so unique and gorgeous in every way and a must-see for everybody. I do recommend gong on a tour because the tour guides will provide you with a bunch of the city's history and the history and local stories of the cemeteries.

If you're in the Garden District you should swing by. The tombs are unlike any I've ever seen in the US.

I bought a ticket for a tour of Lafayette Cemetary with "Save Our Cemetaries." I had never seeen an above ground cemetary before. The tour guide was very knowledgeable about history and her upbeat presentation held my interest for the hour-long tour. Very reasonably priced at $20.00 - but you can save $2.00 if you get a coupon on their... More

The Lafayette Cemetery is one of the main attractions in NOLA and I can see it has significance historically, but the actual site is less than impressive. I believe the attraction is the fact that the tombs are not usual gravestones, they are mini-shrines or mini-houses in place of gravestones. The enormity of them is impressive, however, because I've seen... More

I'd been here before, and was inspired by the architecture of the graves, and the care they've received to be in such good condition now. However, on this trip, my timing was off. We arrived at 3 p.m., only to see that the cemetery's gates are closed and locked at 2:30 p.m. We were able to look though the gate,... More

Definitely book a guided tour to get the true experience of cemeteries in New Orleans! We were just going to walk around ourselves, but decided to book a tour at the bookstore right across the street! It's a really realy cool experience! Don't pass it up!!

Take a guided tour through the cemetery. There is so much to learn about the above ground cemeteries that you will miss out on too much if you do it on your own.
