Our extensive network of buses and streetcars winds throughout every neighborhood of the Crescent City. From Uptown to Downtown, from Lakeview to the Lower Nine, from Mid-City across the Mississippi River and to the parish lines, the RTA goes there. As streetcars glide underneath grand live oaks and past stately mansions, they offer up relaxing views of the beauty, charm and history of New Orleans for little cost. When riders board these historic vehicles they are boarding a piece of movable New Orleans history. The RTA operates three streetcar lines: the famous, historic St. Charles line, the Canal Street line, and the Riverfront line. All lines either run along or intersect with Canal Street in the area between the French Quarter and the Central Business District (CBD) connecting Uptown/Garden District, Carrollton, Mid-City, City Park and the Marigny. The RTA is currently adding more Streetcar lines. « less

The St. Charles Streetcar, the oldest operating streetcar in the world, is an absolute don't miss. For $1.25, you can ride to the end of the line and witness all of the wonderful sites along the way. There's the Garden District, which has some of the most expensive homes in New Orleans. Then, there's the River Bend...a place where you... More

A really good way to travel. Crowed at times but a great way to give your feet a bit of a break.

What's to dislike, except at times the line to board at start of trip?Always takes me back to my childhood in Philly and DC. But it's a great way to see the Garden District, Tulane, and beyond.

Pick it up at Canal Street and take it down to the Garden District and have a drink at the Columns Hotel. Sounds corny but taking a streetcar feels like you've gone back in time.

Took a tour group on this streetcar to see the Gardens District in New Orleans. Unfortunately, the streetcar driver told us we couldn't take pictures - although another streetcar had on half of our group - and allowed them to take as many as they wanted. I called the city on this but no one has had the courage to... More

A great way to navigate and see the city. $3 for a day pass all you can ride. Great way to see the garden district. The operators are funny. We rode at night from Canal to Garden District and felt safe. There its something romantic and nostalgic about riding the lines. Do it

Streetcars will take you everywhere, but the wait can sometimes be long. Also, it seems to be the form of public transportation for residents, homeless, and schoolkids.

For less than the price of a movie ticket, you can get a gorgeous tour of the city and see historic St. Charles Avenue, where homes aren't usually sold, they're deeded to the next lucky owner. Ride from Carrollton Avenue all the way down. NOTE: these streetcars aren't air conditioned, so get a daiquiri and then hop on.
