We were in New Orleans for JazzFest. While walking down Bourbon St., we discovered Irvin Mayfield's Jazz Playhouse by blind luck. Saw Jason Marsalis and his group the first evening and Wes "Warmdaddy" Anderson the second evening. Both nights were very relaxed and the music was outstanding. The second night our waitress was Eileen and she was extremely competent and... More

While in New Orleans, we went to the Jazz Festival and to Frenchman Street. Both confirmed our opinion that the most wonderful place to hear jazz in comfort with people who appreciate the music is at the Irvin Mayfield Jazz Playhouse. Three years ago we passed up the Playhouse because we were intimidated by the luxurious setting so unlike the... More

We spent 6 days in New Orleans and found this venue on our second to last night. We had a wonderful evening listeniing to some awesome jazz. It was the third anniversary of the club and Irvin was there. The group played for 21/2 hours and I had goosebumps the music was so good- as Irvin says Jazz is back... More

We wanted to hear some jazz at a nice venue and found this great club in the Royal Sonesta Hotel. We were met by a hostess who seated us with a good view of the stage. Ordered some drinks, and spent the next hour listening to some great music from Gerald French & the Original Tuxedo Jazz Band. Pricey refreshments,... More

We spent a wonderful evening at Irvin Mayfield's Jazz Playhouse listening to great jazz while sipping a cool beverage - - or two. As luck would have it, the two best seats in the house (comfy armchairs next to the stage) came available as we walked in the door. The music was phenomenal - - Steven Walker on the trombone,... We enjoyed a whole evening of jazz here during the French Quarter Festival. Irvin Mayfield and his group, plus guests, put on a wonderful show in a very comfortable atmosphere. One of our party went back for several other performances--all good.

A couple of us ladies went to Irvin Mayfield's Jazz Playhouse at the Royal Sonesta a few times while we were in New Orleans. It is just a short walk from the Dauphine Orleans Hotel. Highly recommended for fantastic music. Be warned though--it is a smaller venue with an intimate feel which is great; however, be sure to check out... More

Saturday night's they feature brass bands at 12pm. This club is probably the nicest on Bourbon Street. It's unlike the others hole in the wall type bars or clubs. It has a very sophisticated and luxury feel with no cover charge. Also they did not pressure you to buy drinks the moment you walk in and have a seat. A... More

Whenever visiting New Orleans we always try and stay at the Royal Sonesta. I had never gone into Irvin Mayfield's and after going there on our last visit I have to wonder why. We stayed at the Royal Sonesta for our bachelor/bacheloret party weekend and since many of our friends were staying at different hotels we had everyone meet at... More
