Frenchmen is the grown-up version of Bourbon. All the music, food, atmosphere you crave; minus the hand grenades (thank you!) Check it out!

Locals do not go to Bourbon Street, we go to Frenchman. Great food, drinks, and music. The best performers show up on Frenchman when they finish their gigs and just jam late at night.
Did not like cigarette smoking in clubs. Loved the music and some of the restaurants
Live music everywhere you turn. Great bar food. The best atmosphere. This is the real New Orleans experience.
We visited Frenchman Street and in the afternoon happened upon a park festival with an authentic NO brass band! Amazing! We came back later that night and caught some great local jazz at Snug Harbor! Lots of music coming from all the clubs but not the "frat party" scene found on Bourbon Street
Loved 3 Musee' Cafe Would go back for the lamb sliders tomorrow
I would definitely recommend Frenchmen Street to someone visiting New Orleans! It is a lovely street with great bars and restaurants!
If you're staying in the French Quarter this will be easy. Its a 5-10 minute walk depending on where you are in the French quarter. Most of the places on Frenchmen Street don't have covers but have live music. Just walk down the street and see what you like. The crowds are not as obnoxious as those of the French...

Was a bit quiet the night we were there (a Wednesday) with only 3 bars open, and that made it less enjoyable.
We found the best jazz clubs right outside the quarter here!
