The mule ride was a bit pricey, but allowed us to relax and enjoy the breathtaking views of the cliffs, peninsula, and crystal clear water below. The mules were surefooted, and we are fit, but really happy we didn't have to hike out of the valley!! They take care of the permits, the tour at the bottom. My only criticism... more

excellant trip, big day out if your coming from Oahu with a 4am start but worth it. The outing is well organised and the mules are docile and know the way . the tour around the settlement is good with plenty to see with a nice lunch later. Worth checking out Molokai later just to see the differances between the... more

Ouch! The day after the mule ride and we are SORE! The ride down the steep cliffs was truely scary, but the mules are sure-footed and know the way. I couldn't snap picutres I wanted to because I was holding on while my mule not-too-easily manuevered down (and mostly around) the steep steps and rocks. It is a bumpy ride,... more

First of all, let me tell you that I tried to find anything and everything on the internet written about this mule ride before I did it and I have to say there wasn't much out there. So I would like to share my experience with anyone thinking about trying it. I am 46 years old and had never been... more

I loved this experience!! The mules were sure-footed and did not object to the people on them at all. The weather was comfortable. The views in both directions through 26 switchbacks is absolutely stunning. I loved that the majority of the time was spoent on the trail down one of the most beautiful cliffsides in the world. The Park Service... more

My husband and I had heard about the Leper Colony and some history behind it and planned to do the Mule ride in Feb 2008. Unfortunately we did not realize how quickly it booked up thus we decided to do the hike.instead The hike was GREAT. In my opinion I would recommend the hike over the mule ride although I... more

The mule ride down the cliffs to Kalaupapa was one of the worst things I’ve ever done in my life. I’ve never been so scared and I love the rides at Cedar Point! The mule does know what it’s doing, but the poor beast has to walk down a 1780’ elevation, that includes hundreds of STEPS, and back up again.... more

I live on Maui and love to visit our neighbor islands, especially when I have family visiting from the Mainland. When my mother (in her mid-70's) visited this winter, we decided to visit Kalaupapa. We both had read about Kalaupapa and felt reasonably versed on the history of the penisula and the colony. I do not feel that this is... more

Aloha, I went on the Molokai Mule ride on September 18th 2008. It was a spectacular tour. The best tour I think I've ever taken. I had to do this trip alone as my husband stayed behind with our little boy. I have a fear of heights and doing the trip alone had me a little nervous. However, it wasn't... more

I recently returned from our vacation to Maui. This year we visited the island of Molokai and did the World Famous Molokai Mule Ride down the tallest sea cliffs in the World (over 3,000 feet in height) to the former leprosy colony of Kalaupapa, where patients of Hansen's Disease were banished to die in the late 1800's. The mule ride... more
