The Kona Pier has been damaged somewhat during the Tsunami. It does need renovation. It is what it is and functional. It serves daily as an embarkation point for many water sports and tours. In the fall it is a famous turn around point for the Ironman World Championships. That is my favorite time.

Take a walk out and see the people it's free and just plain nice day or night.

This pier has gotten very touristy in the last 25 years with many, many small shops and quick food restaurants. It is crowded, even in the off season, and dirty. I don't feel the need to ever go back.

We spent quite a bit of time in various areas down here. Ate a couple meals at some cool patio restaurants and wandered along. We also took paddleboard and kayak lessons just off the pier. From this port - you walk and visit shops--restaurants and a variety of visitor areas. this is a very nice area to visit - we were on a cruise and it was one of the stops....

The Kona Pier is at the south end of Ali'i Drive in Kona. The cruise ships dock at this pier, so there are tourists in town often. You can often see dolphins jumping near the pier, usually mornings and toward dinner time. There are several good restaurants near the pier, and people can also swim at the end of it.... More
