This is just across from our hotel and is used to dock a lot of the tour boats. It gets really busy. You can take pictures from the dock for island and beach views. We saw dolphins right at the pier as well.

It is a pier...and thanks to Homeland Security, it is all but off limits (unless you are taking a cruise ship). However, if you make there during Ironman, the place is starting & ending point realization of dreams or defeat...!

The Pier is surrounded by many things to do and of course where you pick up many of the boat cruises. The fishing boats and many of the snorkeling trips start from the harbor that is between Kona and the airport. Other boat tours start south of Kona. It is NOT like a pier in the Caribbean with all the... More

But it is still just a working pier. Cruise boats drop their passangers, and tour boats use to board their passengers. The sport fishing has all moved out to the harbor.

The Kailua Pier isn't really a destination in and of itself, but it's a busy spot for dinner cruises, cruise ship drop-off, water sports, etc. My husband enjoyed the snorkeling in this area, especially because it was right next to our hotel and close to the main action in Kailua Kona. He was happy to be able to see a... More

Kailua Pier is NOT an attraction. It is a place where you would go if you were taking a ride on the Body Glove boat, going out on the submarine or jet skis, or being taken out on a dive. If you are on a cruise, Kailua Pier is where the ship's tender will drop you off and pick you... More

If you need to get on a tour, or on your cruise ship you need the pier. However, it is not really an attraction like piers are in some places. You can see the starting point for the Ironman here and often some folks practicing their swims.

If you have ever dream of what a pier area in Hawaii would look like this is the place for it to come true. Gotta get there some time in your life.

The dinner cruise on Body Glove and other water activities begin on the pier. A fun place to hand out!

Lots of fun things to do here - and if you hang around long enough, you can catch the beginning of a triathlon (or even participate in one) or hear some local ukelele players. Nice beach - and great place to board. You can rent a board right across the street.
