We were in Skagway the first part of June, on a cruise. We booked our excursion directly through the railroad because it was a little bit cheaper. Those who booked through the cruise line could board the train right on the dock. We had to walk into town and get our tickets and board there, which was a 10-15 min... more

We boarded at Skagway -- though you should check the website's schedule for other locations and pricing -- and spent the next two hours winding up, up into the mountains, which were wrapped in clouds. We lost count of the number of waterfalls before we turned around at the summit, Fraser, British Columbia (population 7). On the way back down... more

This was my second time to cruise Alaska and ride this train---it was a beautiful day (may22) and the ride to Frasier was just as fascinating the second time as was the first--There was an abundance of snow--in fact, the train stopped to pick up some snow boarders who were spending the day on the mountains. The young lady came... more

I just went on the White Pass Railway last week. The pass was fogged in so we could not see that much, but I was glad that I went. Right after our train, they had a rock slide and so if we hadn't gone then, we would not have been able to go. I enjoyed the train. I went as... more

We booked this excursion through our cruise. We stayed on the left side of the train, and the scenery was wonderful. However, it was a bit boring later on. Will probably choose a different excursion at Skagway for our next Alaska cruise. more

I did the Chilkoot trail back in July with a couple of friends from work. We worked the train ride into our overall experience of the gold rush and it would'nt have been complete with out it. I noticed a few reviews found it a waste of money and maybe time. My suggestion would be (if you haven't already done... more

We saw several reviews that said this was a dissapointing trip and all you saw was trees. They must have nearsighted! A delightful trip with spectacular views and incredible history. To think that what took us a few hours to accomplish on a train, the 1898 Klondike Gold Rushers took weeks hiking on foot. Trees, mountains, waterfalls, and if youre... more

This 3 hour roundtrip from Skagway is pretty expensive, and you will see the same thing on the way back, but it's a beautiful ride and definitely worth it. There is also a nice historical brief explaining how gold prospectors made the journey on foot or with a horse. We enjoyed the return ride just as much. If you buy... more

My wife, teenage son, and I took the Y&WP train to Carcross in late July. I think that the complete day trip is preferable to the 3 hour round train trip to the top of the pass and back to Skagway. If you take the full-day trip, remember that you must have a passport. The full-day trip left from the... more
