I did the Chilkoot trail back in July with a couple of friends from work. We worked the train ride into our overall experience of the gold rush and it would'nt have been complete with out it. I noticed a few reviews found it a waste of money and maybe time. My suggestion would be (if you haven't already done... more
We saw several reviews that said this was a dissapointing trip and all you saw was trees. They must have nearsighted! A delightful trip with spectacular views and incredible history. To think that what took us a few hours to accomplish on a train, the 1898 Klondike Gold Rushers took weeks hiking on foot. Trees, mountains, waterfalls, and if youre... more
This 3 hour roundtrip from Skagway is pretty expensive, and you will see the same thing on the way back, but it's a beautiful ride and definitely worth it. There is also a nice historical brief explaining how gold prospectors made the journey on foot or with a horse. We enjoyed the return ride just as much. If you buy... more
My wife, teenage son, and I took the Y&WP train to Carcross in late July. I think that the complete day trip is preferable to the 3 hour round train trip to the top of the pass and back to Skagway. If you take the full-day trip, remember that you must have a passport. The full-day trip left from the... more
What a wonderful trip. This 3 1/2 hour train ride was one of the highlights of our vacation. Definitely sit on the left side of the train if you book this excursion. The trip is narrated on the way up the mountain. Which really helps you understand what you are looking at. The scenery is spectacular. This is is a... more
We were most disappointed with this trip, scenery can only be seen from one side of the carriage, you change sides at the top, but you spend 90 mins looking out at rocks and trees. We thought it was very expensive and not worth the time. more
Skagway's history is so fascinating, so one would think that the White Pass railroad experience would be a "must". It's not. The 2 hour trip goes up the pass, and true, at times you can see the path that the gold miners had followed, but the ride is long and a little tedious. In preparing for this trip, two separate... more
We booked the Ultimate Yukon & White Pass from our Holland America cruise. I was very excited for this part of our trip as I have many railroad enthusiasts as friends. This tour went like a well oiled engine. We were met on the dock by a sign for our tour and actually got on the bus early. Our tour... more
We decided to take the train when we found out that the trip to Dawson is 8 hrs. Its a pretty trip....probably better 2nd trip. We went on 1st train in the morning, very foggy and not great for pics. Did see a bear...we were also mooned by someone in a RV park! If you take pics inside, keep in... more
