We particularly enjoyed talking with the craftspeople -- the seamstresses, the beaders, the artists! Talking with the young people about their backgrounds, activities and goals was inspiring and bodes well for Alaska's future. The pieces for sale in the shop do seem pricey -- but you must remember they're all original works of art, not mass-produced souvenirs from China. A... more

Although this center is designed for tourists, it is still an interesting place to visit as it is also used to teach native peoples about their own culture and help them re-discover their roots. Plan on spending at least 90 minutes here as there is much to learn and to listen to native young people explain their culture. more

We visited the Center in July 2008. We enjoyed listening to the presentations at each of the life-sized villages. The crafting of the life-sized villages were very well done. My group of six found this site very interesting and worth the time. We hope that it can gain more funding to finish exhibits and create more. more

I was here a couple days ago. I saw the dance demonstration and participated in it which was nice. I did not see any of the films when I was there. However, I did go to all the villages. Each village had a typical home of each of the different Native people as well as a guide to answer any... more

Date: March 8th Over the final weekend of Fur Rondy , several friends and I took advantage of the chance to visit the Alaska Native Heritage Center in northeast Anchorage just off the Glenn Hwy. We had a fantastic time! From the traditional native dancing to meeting famous sprint sled musher and long-time Fur Rondy hero George Attla to the... more

We visited the ANHC on the last day of a 14 day trip to Alaska. By the time we arrived there we'd visited some really excellent museums in small towns in south central Alaska. We also come from Michigan; home of Deerfield Village; one of the best examples of a "restored" historical community. So that being said, I was disappointed... more

We visited the Native Heritage Center because it was included in an all day Anchorage tour. When we heard that a stop at this Center was included we were a little hesitant to get excited, but when we got there, just the view out the large picture window the the lake outside was enough to change our minds. We browsed... more

We went to the Native Heritage Center in early July 2008. We used the 2 coupons from the Northernlights coupon book so our party of 4 got in for half price. We spent about 3 hours at the center and potentially could have stayed slightly longer if we had more time. I was really impressed with the number of tours,... more

I went there with my 13 year old daughter and we both had a great time. The guides did a great job and the exhibits were very good. I wanted to spend about 3 hours there, my daughter was done at 2 hours. more

Aside from the grumpy front desk person, our visit here was a highlight of our time in Anchorage. This excellent site provides insight into the housing and lifestyles of the various native alaskan tribes. Each area was staffed with experienced members of the tribes who were friendly and knowledgable. The dancing exhibit and exhibition hall in the main building were... more
