I remember visiting the state capitol in fourth grade. I enjoyed this visit just as much. Lots of walking but I love this old place. Many park vendors present with lots of goodies.

They were in session during our visit and it was a nice experience to see and hear our government in action. The building is beautiful and the history is amazing. Everyone was very helpful and friendly.
Didn't go on an official tour, just walked around the capitol. Interior was spectacular, design and architect is worth seeing.
Resoration has been very well done. This is the tallest of all the domed capitols in the US. Also considered one of the three most ornate. Nice 1/2 hour tour and then you can wander anywhere you want.
As you walk through Springfield's Historic sites, don't forget to stop at the current State Capitol. The building is lavish - there are so many intricate details in every square inch of this place, you arn't really sure where to look. The stained glass, the dome, the paintings are marvelous. Free tours are offered daily and are recommended.
This is a great place to tour. I can't count how many times I've been here over the years. Always enjoy it. The dome is stunning to look up at.

You cannot imagine how beautiful the inside is!! Our guide was excellent. We were shocked that they offered tours early on Sunday morning (9am). So we were able to go before we left town. I highly recommend stopping there, it is a show stopper!!
We spent the weekend in Sprinfield and really enjoyed the Capitol Building. It was beautiful and the people were very friendly and helpful. they all seemd to know all about the building. All in all it was a very nice experience.
Surprisingly small and the leasy ornate of any capitol building we've toured. Still worth visiting, I think thses are often overlooked and all are different and feature the local history.
