Sure, the monuments are an obvious focus, but if you stay on the old part of Monument Avenue (within the city limits) you'll also see some of the most stunning residential architecture anywhere. The other contributor who mentioned the traffic wasn't kidding. It's a bit of a race course. My advice: park the car and walk. You'll get much more... more

Along the avenue are statues of Robert E. Lee, JEB Stuart, Stonewall Jackson, Jefferson Davis, Matthew Fontaine Maury and the newest statue of tennis great and Richmond Native Arthur Ashe. Monument Avenue is surrounded by older homes, many of which are either rented or undergoing renovations. These homes have NO driveways so street parking is the only option. Finding a... more

The monuments are great to see, but you must be careful of existing traffic. Places to park can also be a concern.However, seeing the monuments of Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson,Jeb Stuart, Matthew Maury, and Jefferson Davis were outstanding. more
